This is a summary of Greyashe Episode 44.

OP: the dropouts.

ED: Take a long walk.

Chapters covered: 100-102

Kani and Guy glance at one another and then tilt their heads inquisitively. Guy asks Kani if she has any idea of what's going on, and she replies by shrugging a shoulder. For one thing, she's actually rather amazed that they're able to even witness....whatever this is. She informs the fighter that he should be honored to watch what could be something that only happens in the back annals of history.

Guy scratches his head and sighs. He responds that he gets what Kani is saying, although it doesn't explain what he should be honored to witness. Kani glances away and back at him before crossing her arms, apparently deep in thought. Guy gently tells the witch that he's not going to make fun of her for not knowing what's going on, which only seems to irritate her. She proclaims that she doesn't not know, to which Guy replies with a exasperated sigh. Kani rages a bit and then finally turns to ask for Van's opinion, forgetting that he's the cause of their conundrum.

Van had returned with a small girl clutching his sleeve, only moments earlier. Kani and Guy had first made sure that the boy wasn't hurt, and after he had assured them he was fine, they turned their attention to the girl. Van sheepishly had admitted he hadn't had any luck getting her to talk to him, and that he had to convince her for a good while that their group means her no harm. Guy starts to ask why she'd be so timid, when Kani gasps and in a hushed whisper reveals that she is a farseer. Guy blinks and stares at the two for a second, realization dawning on him. He whistles and with a grin smacks Van on the back and congratulates him on finding another farseer like himself. Van laughs sheepishly at first, and then out loud. He can't contain his happiness, and turning to the girl asks if she had been like him, lonely and confused? Or had she grown up around their people and gone on a journey? He has a multitude of questions, and doesn't shy from firing them rapidly at the girl.

She responds by holding up her hand in a 'stop' gesture, to which Van stops rambling, and apologizes. She then points at her eyes and then his own, to which Van raises an eyebrow and turns to his friends for guidance. They both shrug, leaving the boy to interpret this himself, and before he can ask for more specifics, the girl has grabbed his arms and forced him to look into her eyes. Van blinks and for a while the two remain in this position....a while being up until this moment when Kani has turned to Van to ask what he's doing. She turns red realizing that she may have intruded, and bows while apologizing. The girl lets Van go, and he steps back twice before shaking his head and coming to his senses. Guy asks almost impatiently what just happened, and Van replies that he's only sort of sure. Apparently he can't read his own people like he can others, but apparently two farseers looking at each other causes a different effect. He's not sure what to call it....like he doesn't really know 'more' about the girl, but he doesn't know 'less' either. Its as if she's familiar to him, all without the prerequisite memories and functions that would come with having such knowledge.

Kani turns to the girl who rubs her eyes and looks up at the witch defiantly. The two ladies continue to silently regard each other until Van tells Kani that it didn't hurt or anything, and he doesn't think it negatively affected him either. He feels the same as before, so there's no need for her to be suspicious of the girl. Kani turns to Van and reminds him that they also don't have the luxury to openly trust every stranger they happen upon. What if Aschner sent someone after them? Or what if this girl has an alternative motive...?

The girl surprises everyone by saying she has no such thing. Besides, she's injured and was lost before she met Van, so what alternative motive could she possibly have? Van readily agrees, much to Kani's ire, but she has to admit the farseeing girl makes a valid point. She notes though that the girl speaks...strangely, as if their language is not her native tongue. She seemingly curses in another language and admits that the 'language of the district', is uncouth and annoying. There are too many variables and words and....everything. Guy points out her accent as being someone from the eastern part of the world, and the girl nods in agreement. She then addresses Van and reveals her name as Frieda Shen, a farseer from the eastern continent.

Kani doesn't hide her surprise, as she thought farseers were nomads, as in they didn't claim one country or another. Frieda makes a face akin to someone explaining things to a stubborn child, and says that the farseers are really two different clans, the easterners, and the clan of nomads she's oh-so-fond-of. The easterners remain on their continent, remaining hidden there, while the nomads travel all over the place. Unless one has been down east, it's easy to imagine that they'd never hear of these 'other' farseers.

She then sizes Van up while murmuring in her native tongue, and when she's done she sighs and asks how he could have possibly survived this long...? He really doesn't seem to know anything about his heritage does he? It's amazing that he hasn't just died, or worse gotten captured by someone who would then poach his eyes out. Kani and Guy both wonder how being captured is worse, while Van explains he wasn't raised as a farseer, but came into his powers barely half a year ago, and continues to explain that he is looking for his mother and the 'nomads'. Frieda eyes him incredulously and flatly responds that such a thing is useless. He's doing much better on his own than if he were to hook up with his people again. This time all three ask her what she means, but she has already started walking away claiming to be tired of the ruins. She stops and eyes the path out, claiming she only needed to find the main corridor to be able to find the exit. She hops over a few stones and saunters out, all while still barefoot. Van and his friends look at each other before following Frieda out.

Outside Frieda takes in the sun and stretches wide. She glances back at Van and his group and then faces forward. Guy asks her if she'll be okay? Moreover as she pointed out she's injured....how did that happen? The farseeing girl turns to Van and takes up residence behind him again replying that she doesn't trust them. Everyone is after her after all, so she needs to be much more prudent in whom she trusts and whom she doesn't. Kani makes a face, and Frieda eyes her again. Even when one puts aside their three year age gap, the witch girl despite not really being one to look after her appearance has a more mature, womanly aura about her. Frieda can tell that in a few years despite being pale from hiding indoors, her 'aura' and more importantly her 'body' will be a sight to behold indeed. This thought fills Frieda with annoyance, and she points out that Kani might have a bright future in the looks department, but the higher they are the farther they fall. Guy nods in agreement with a straight face, which earns him a 'thwack' from Kani's staff. Although she appears to be smiling, she grinds her teeth and warns Frieda to watch her mouth. Frieda stares at Kani for a bit, and then grins evilly. She wraps her arms around Van and says that she only trusts her own kind in a cutesy voice. She then whispers into Van's back and then turns and darts away. Van glances over at his friends, and is met by Guy's approving nod, and Kani's 'I'll-kill-you-if-you-follow-her.' glare. Van smartly doesn't meet the witch's eye for long and runs after Frieda. He turns back every so often to see if Kani is pursuing him as he thinks she would, and is relieved to find she isn't. He makes his way to a clearing and finds Frieda standing with a remote expression, her farseeing eyes peering into his.

Kani sulks with her head on her lap, as Guy is at a loss for what to do. She's made it obvious she doesn't care for him much, but he feels just a smidgen bad for the girl. Being left behind is never fun, but normally he'd cheer up a girl with a drink and a promise of fun times afterward. Of course with the aforementioned dislike, and more importantly Kani's age, that isn't a viable option. He finally settles on talking to her, but Kani suddenly stands up and asks the fighter if he hears something. Guy glances around and is about to say he doesn't when he...does. Something making a strange sound seems to be closing in on them....

Van asks Frieda what she couldn't discuss in front of his friends. She playfully smiles and replies that she isn't required to tell any non farseers anything. For the first time the boys eyes narrow and he replies that they aren't just 'non farseers', they're his friends. Without them he wouldn't have been able to get this far, to meet her. He had to learn about his powers on the fly, and it had been them who had protected him from harm so he could do just that. He makes it clear that he is overjoyed to have met Frieda -another of his people, but he won't tolerate her talking bad about his friends. Frieda looks at him, her surprise evident. She finally sighs and with a shrug replies that she won't try to change his mind, since she really doesn't care. She does warn him however, people who get close to farseers either get hurt, or are the ones who do the hurting. Van doesn't flinch, and Frieda nods understanding his choice. She then asks Van if he's ever heard of the 'Ankoku sho'. When he answers that he hasn't, Frieda explains it's a book of complete darkness, the likes of which no one has ever seen before. Apparently within the book is the malice of several years of agape abuse. While no one ever thinks to ask what happens to agape which turns on it's owner, Frieda had and her research had lead her to this book. She hopes to find it and own it for herself, and to strike down anyone who would dare oppose her.

Van stares at her slack jawed and asks if she's serious, and Frieda nods earnestly. Her people had exiled her after finding out her interest in the book, and so she had been all alone. Thanks to her eyes though, research had been really quite easy, and she had been making some headway until she made a bad partnership, the dissolution of which had ended up injuring her and creating a rather nasty enemy. Van feels a cold shiver go up his spine as he asks the next question, 'So...what happened to that partner?' Frieda looks thoughtful, and answers matter of faculty that they're probably still pursuing her. Van nervously asks if this person is pursuing her, and now she's with them, does this mean they're pursuing..all them?

Before Frieda can answer, a shout rings out, and the two farseers realize Kani and Guy are in trouble. Van heads back immediately, while Frieda considers running in the opposite direction. Deep down however, she's happy to have met someone like her as well, and despite the smarter action being to run away decides to follow Van.

Van arrives and stops in his tracks. He sees Kani and Guy staring up in the air at what seems to be a..big black mechanical thing with a spinning blade keeping it in the air! Van yells over the blade to Guy and asks what's going on. Guy explains that it's 'nothing much, just this random helicopter assaulted us'. Frieda catches up and with an exasperated face mutters that 'they' sure are persistant. Kani and Guy eye the farseer girl, but before they can react a weapon extends from underneath the helicopter, and without warning begins to turn slowly. Kani and Van tense up rightfully, as Guy turns and tells everyone to get down. The helicopter begins to fire upon the group, shrapnel from the ruins and the ground exploding on each impact. Kani asks Van if he can get a reading on the helicopter, to which he gasps and reveals that he can't. Like Frieda, he cannot get a reading on their enemy at all. Frieda narrows her eyes, and in her native tongue curses her luck.
