Greyashe Terms.

Agape.

A term that measures the amount of ‘love’ one’s magic has for them.  While in most situations it is the magician who controls the magic, in the world of Greyashe, it is in fact the opposite. If there isn’t enough magical love or ‘agape’, Magic users will find themselves powerless.  Not to be mistaken with a love that extends to both sides, the magic has to be infatuated with the user. The user does not always have to be infatuated with it, although this helps. Otherwise learning magic is similar to most incarnations. Identifying the magic, mastering the element, and honing in on one’s strengths.  It is said every person (save one certain group mentioned below) has some potential for agape, just some choose to seize the opportunity while others decide to live a life without it.

v Jealousy.

Jealousy occurs in a manner much like that of human beings. If the magician that a magic is infatuated with should become passionate about something or in some cases someone else, the magic can react in several ways.

  1.

This is the usual reaction, which often ends with the magician becoming injured by his own magic. Death while not unusual is not common.

  1.

The term used for a magician killed by his own magic. Usually this occurs if the magician is using a particularly strong magic, or has a high agape level.

  1.

Where magic does not work as the magician dictates, but does not harm him either. Should the magician not rekindle his agape with the magic, he may in turn become an invalid. It is not impossible for a magician who has become an invalid to gain power again, but the process is long and arduous, and usually requires a sacrifice.

The unloved.

These are people who cannot use agape, nor can elemental spells born from agape effect them. For example, if a magician with fire magic were to launch an attack at one of the unloved, the fire attack would not affect them in any way. This does not however, protect them from residual damage from attacks, (i.e. a building collapsing from the aforementioned fire attack.) or manmade weapons such as guns and swords. The symptoms and cause of becoming an unloved are unknown as of right now, but some surmise that it has something to do with death or near death experiences. The phrase ‘Love cannot bring back the dead.’ is often used to describe these people. This phenomenon seems to occur in women more often than males.

Resistors.

A term used for those who are not unloved, but do not use magic for one reason or another. The main difference between them and the unloved stems from them having the possibility to use magic, but refusing to. Reasons from this range from fear of insanity when becoming too deeply involved with magic, to not wanting to be controlled by agape levels. They do still have the potential, and therefore can be killed by agape born magic.

Farseers

A group of nomadic people who have the ability to perceive the psyche of both magics and humans alike. Because of their ability to perceive magic’s true nature, it does not trust them and will not form agape pacts with them. Despite this, they still have ‘potential’, and can killed by agape born magic. It is said the farseers know of a place safe from the ‘world end scenario’ brought by the sentient three leading to their persecution and self exile. Their fighting ability is not much different than that of a untrained human being, although they can see agape and predict its movement. Although they cannot use magic, the farseers can still use Alchemy.

World’s end scenario.

A phrase used to describe the ‘resets’ to the world, prior to the current iteration.  According to folklore, the sentient three have destroyed and rebuilt the world at least twice before using one center ‘point’ to start the process over from. It is said that if one can find this ‘point’ they can survive the onslaught of the world end scenario. Unfortunately, the farseers are the only ones who know where to go, and they remain in hiding, leading to the current demand for them. Even now, the current iteration of the world seems to be rushing to its end, as the sentient three have once again appeared.

Sentient three.

Those known as the ‘origins of magic’. Or their individual names of ‘The Butcher, the Baker, and the Candle stick maker.’ At one point in the ancient past, magics were in fact humanoid, suggesting that the first human beings were in fact agape based beings. As they are the origins of magic, their agape is extremely high, granting them great amounts of strength.  According to legend, they have already caused two ‘world end scenarios’ in the past, and are hoping to begin a third. Apparently, the cause of their hatred towards humanity stems from the first non-agape based organisms using their abilities to further their own gain, ranging from killing other humans to quenching thirsts for avarice. The deities stepped in after the second scenario occurred, and gave them an ultimatum. Since then they have obeyed the rules of the deities above, but have looked around for loopholes to exploit.

Calamity Magic.

While most magics can be elemental or affect the body, chaos magic earns its own section through because its effects have different ranges.

  • §

1)    This magic directly affects the user and the target. It can actually be used on objects, as long as they are in turn used by a human target.  It does however mean that the user will be cursed by bad luck for whatever duration the user dictates.

2)    If the user dies, the duration of the bad luck is equal to the agape level the user had before death.

3)    The spell will end if the object it is used on is destroyed, or the target dies.

  • §

1)    This magic randomly affects anything that can move or be moved.

2)    Users with strong agape can defend themselves from being done in by this magic, but this also goes for the user.

3)    If the user is killed by this magic, the duration is equal to the level of agape he had before death.

4)    If the target’s agape is stronger than the users, the random encounter is cancelled out, and nothing occurs. If the gulf of strength is too wide, the magician may become an invalid.

  • §

1)    This magic literally renders the user untouchable, as the amount of negative energy around him spikes to a level which can completely rip a human body apart.

2)    The magic does not stop unless the user dies or the magic loses interest or becomes jealous of the user.

3)    Because of this, it requires a higher level of agape than most other magics.

4)    Unlike the other calamity magics however, as long as the user keeps his agape level high, there is no feedback on himself.
