Jikan (2002) Episode 34

Page history last edited by Sakaki 12 years, 11 months ago

Opening Song: Ano Michi wa Bokura arukidasu (That Road we walked on)

You and I searched for our best place

Following that star every single day, and creating a new story on the way

When another boring day was born it was a place to escape to

I knew that when the time came we’d all go there together…

Memories that we had and those that have yet to be made

The rain and sunny days too I wait for them all…

Even if I was alone certainly…I had my way to walk

Running down a dream road time almost reversing to follow me I had so much fun…

Even recalling times I was hurt

Like that star I wanna shine for eternity and remember your fading voice…

Its my wish that time didn’t forget…I wish every day

Let it shine on.….. The path we walked together…

(We join Sakaki and Gato on their journey in progress as they go to find the Tengons and their best friend Atsuko. Finally after many trials and tribulations, they made it to the spacecraft that will take them to Atsuko’s home planet. From the looks of things, this craft is a luxury liner, with guests from different walks of life boarding. Sakaki and Gato join the line and soon after flashing the tickets they won in an earlier adventure they are on board.)

Sakaki: Well its not exactly heaven in the skies, but we’re not worried about appearance…. just if this thing can take us to Atsuko.

Gato: Course it wouldn’t hurt to fly in a really nice ship.

(Sakaki looks around board and notices the people.)

Sakaki: Huh, looks like whether you’re rich or poor you can afford a ride on this ship. Its nice to see one place where status doesn’t divide people.

(Sakaki checks the watch the T.S.M. gave him and gets a worried expression.)

Sakaki: I thought we would be setting out by now….

Gato: Well with a ship like this I wouldn’t be surprised if the captain was hung over in his quarters right about now.

Sakaki: What are you trying to do? Jinx us into crashing?!

Gato: Just stating the truth.

(Then a middle-aged man walks on deck and stands in the middle of the crowd. After beckoning them to calm down a bit, he clears his throat so that he can make an announcement.)

Man: I’m sorry for the inconvenience, but due to the lack of ship-hands and other employees, this cruise won’t be happening at this time.

(Sakaki’s jaw drops.)

Gato: It’s almost as if he gave us a verbal slap to the face.

Sakaki: Episode 34: It’s a living! Temporary Mercenaries!

(After the announcement, the man begins to walk away. He doesn’t get too far before Sakaki runs over to him.)

Sakaki: Wha—what do you mean?! I really need this ride!

Man: Its just like I said. I don’t have enough help so I can’t fly this ship.

Sakaki: What happened to your help anyway?

Gato: Sob story starting in…….3…..2….1…

Man: Well ever since the Tengons became more active its been a real pain for anyone to go flying or do anything in the sky. You know their base is now on Terrasno right?

(Sakaki gasps.)

Gato: Dude…isn’t that the name of Toot’s home planet?!

Sakaki: They’ve set up base there?! Could this be because I failed to get the Dragon iron whatever’s from Boss Tengon?

Man: You know Boss Tengon?

Sakaki: Know him?! He’s the reason why I have to get on this ship and fly to Terrasno!

Man: Well I’m sorry kid, without help I can’t manage the flight.

Sakaki: I’m more than willing to help! Anything to get this flight going today!

Gato: As long as you don’t volun----

Sakaki(Pointing at Gato): Even he’s willing to help! Whatever it takes we’ll do it!

Gato(Thinking): He did it…he went and volunteered me without even asking again…

Man: I really don’t see what a kid and a cat could really do to help this fight happen…

Sakaki: We won these tickets from the president’s challenge just now. That makes us really strong right?

(The man looks at the tickets and sees the president’s signature. This seems to change his mind a little bit.)

Man: Well while that may mean you’re strong….this job requires a lot of labor, and theres a good chance you’ll end up dead…..

Gato: Whoa whoa whoa whoa….DEAD? What the hell will we be doing? I figured we’d be swabbing the starboard, or guarding the poop deck or whatever.

Sakaki: Gato…. don’t flaunt your ignorance in public….

Man: Well I don’t need help with cleaning really, its guards I need. People to defend the ship from attackers. Not only are the Tengons out there, but there are other beasts in space that would love to add one more ship to their list of victims.

Sakaki: Beasts in….space?! That’s awesome and scary at the same time!

(The man points at Sakaki, and Gato groans.)

Gato: If you think about it too much you’ll simply hurt yourself.

Man: I couldn’t put you guys in danger and have a good conscious about it.

Sakaki: Don’t worry about us. I have to make this voyage, I made a promise to myself that I’d get to Boss Tengon’s lair and save a friend of mine!

(The man stares at Sakaki for a good long while and finally let out a sigh of defeat.)

Man: Ok. I’ll tell the other guests that the flight is still on then.

Sakaki: Thank you. You won’t regret this!

(In a short time the ship is preparing to take off yet again.)

Sakaki: Gato, are you as excited as me?

Gato: Excited about possibly becoming a living example of the food chain in action? (With obvious sarcasm.) Suuuuuuure.

Sakaki(Not noticing.): Ok Gato! We’re gonna bring Atsuko back for sure!

(The ship takes off and after that it activates its special ventilation system to allow the passengers to breathe in space. Sakaki and Gato take this time to make their rounds around the ship making sure that everything is in order.)

Sakaki: Gato make sure you keep your eyes open for anything suspicious.

Gato: In that case I’ll be walking around with my eyes closed.

(Sakaki knocks on a door, and after not getting a response he walks in.)

Sakaki: Just checking but no one IS here right?

(He walks around inspecting every part of the room.)

Gato: And what are you supposed to be?

Sakaki: I’m making sure no one smuggled any weapons or stuff like that on board.

Gato: Why is it you make everything so much harder than it actually is?

Sakaki: You wouldn’t feel that way if you actually had to work for things.

(Sakaki spies a book under the bed and picks it up.)

Sakaki: Well, this could be useful.

(He opens up the book and flips through it.)

Sakaki: It seems to be someone’s log.

(He sits on the bed and flips through it some more.)

Gato: So tell me! What’s in it?

(Sakaki turns to the first page and begins to read aloud.)

Sakaki: First day: This is my first time traveling in a space vessel. The stars seem so close. I almost feel like I could touch them now. Its such a magical feeling to be up the far in the sky.

(Sakaki smiles.)

Sakaki: This guy and I have something in common then.

Gato: Think about that later. Keep reading, there has to be some juicy stuff in there.

Sakaki: Ok ok! Hold your horses! Or….cats….

(Sakaki flips to another page.)

Sakaki: Fifth day: After talking to some more experienced travelers, a lot of them speak highly of space travel, compelling me to perhaps do this kind of voyage again. However one downside that they all shared with me was something simply known as the Vorb. Their descriptions of this thing all vary, it can either be a huge serpent like creature, or a winged bird of fury. I dearly hope that I don’t get a close look at this being, and things go by smoothly.

Gato: See? What did I tell you? Now get to the part where they were messily devoured!

Sakaki: And what good could come out of reading that part?

Gato: Well do you have other ways of entertaining these readers for a couple more pages?

(Sakaki Sighs, and he begins to flip through the book some more looking for what Gato mentioned. Finally he shuts the book and stands up.)

Gato: Well?

Sakaki: I didn’t see anything like that. It seems like that past voyage went pretty well.

Gato: Aww, oh well, I guess that’s what DVD’s are for anyway.

Sakaki: Come on, we’re supposed to be guarding this place.

Gato: Ok.

(They walk out of the room, and the book falls off the bed opening to a certain page. Only one thing is written on this page, and its in big red letters. Simply put it states “KILLED.” Meanwhile Sakaki and Gato continue their patrol of the ship, and nothing seems to be out of the ordinary.)

Sakaki: Boy the way that the captain was talking earlier…I figured things would be really well…busy and stuff.

Gato: Better not speak too soon.

Sakaki: Huh? What do you mean?

Gato: Ever since we got up here in space, I’ve kept my eye on that star over there.

Sakaki: Why?

(Gato turns to Sakaki, his eyes as large as dishplates and now having a fluorescent color.)

Gato: Don’t they remind you of my eyes?

Sakaki: Please don’t look at me like that! It’s blinding me!

Gato: Spoil sport. Anyway it’s been in the same place for a couple of hours now. I figure in a ship like this we should have moved pretty far by now.

Sakaki: Now that I think of it you’re right.

(Sakaki runs over to the captain’s quarters and knocks on the door.)

Sakaki: Captain! Captain!

(The door knob twists and the Captain stands before them.)

Captain: How are things going boys?

Sakaki: Well while theres nothing suspicious on board going on, we’ve noticed that we’re not actually moving!

Gato: Unless this is normal space travel that’s bad right?

Captain: This is strange all right…..according to my control panel we’ve been going at a steady pace.

Sakaki: Well we’ve noticed that same star there for a while now.

Captain: That’s normal. Seeing that this is space unlike the skies back home, we may not notice movement as much seeing that we can’t actually feel the ship moving.

(Then there is a loud crash and everyone is thrown off their feet by the ship suddenly stopping.)

Sakaki: Ok…now I’m SURE we’ve stopped.

Captain: That came from the back! We’ve got to check that out right now!

(He runs to the back as do Sakaki and Gato. When they get back there all of their eyes widen in horror.)

Captain: The whole, space rudder and….back of the ship…

Sakaki: They’re….they’re…

Gato: THE’VE BEEN FREAKING RIPPED OFF!!

(True enough there is only the ruined remains of the aforementioned part.)

Sakaki: Captain! What does this mean?

Captain: For now we’re stranded.

Gato: STRANDED?! In space?!

Sakaki: I figure that’s a lot worse than being stranded on the earth…

Captain: Luckily we should have a backup power source. It should get us to the next planet.

Sakaki: Thank goodness….

Gato: Well then get it cranked up!

Captain: But it would be really important to find out what caused this in the first place.

Sakaki: We’re on it Captain.

(The two of them part. Sakaki checks out the damaged back end of the ship and rub his chin.)

Sakaki: To be honest I have no idea what to even begin looking for.

Gato: You idiot. Why would you take on a job you don’t know anything about?

Sakaki: That doesn’t matter now! I have to find out how this happened?

Gato: To me…it looks like a piece of the ship was just chewed off.

(Sakaki stares at it.)

Sakaki: You know…I agree with you.

Gato: You do?

Sakaki: Yeah, it looks like something clamped down on it and pulled really hard.

Gato: So where…..is the thing that did this now?

Sakaki: Beats me.

Gato: Better question…will it be back?

(Sakaki stares at him with a serious expression.)

Sakaki: Let’s hope and pray that it doesn’t.

(A little while later the back up system is up, and the ship is moving yet again.)

Gato: Not that I’m complaining but why didn’t that creature finish its meal?

Sakaki: That thought crossed my mind too. I almost think that that monster is toying with us.

(The guests have decided to retire to their rooms after the attack earlier. One boy walks down the hallway looking for the bathroom and after a little while he’s able to find it. After reliving himself, he walks back towards his room. When he gets down the hall right beside his room, he peers out of the window out of curiosity.)

Boy: Huh, this seems strange.

(The scenery is nothing more than a large red spot.)

Boy: I always figured space would be wider and much more, well magnificent than this.

(Then a black cover slides over the red spot, and covers it completely. Then it slides off again revealing the red spot. This happens again and again, and the boy watches for a while.)

Boy: If I didn’t know any better that would seem like blinking.

(Then his face turns blue as he realizes what he just said.)

Boy: Gu-uh—guhhhhhhh

(Then his scream can be heard echoing around the ship.)

Sakaki: Someone is in trouble!

(Sakaki runs down to where the scream came from, but he doesn’t get very far because a deafening crash stops him.)

Sakaki: What was that?!

(He turns around and sees nothing.)

Sakaki: Are we being attacked again?! But where?

(Then the Captain runs by.)

Sakaki: Captain! Where are you going?!

Captain: Something is attacking the front part of the ship!

Sakaki: What?!

(Gato then runs up and sits imbetween them.)

Gato: Something is below deck!

Sakaki: WHAT?! Are there three attackers or something?!?!

Gato: I don’t know what it is but you’d better do something about it!

Sakaki: Damn it! Where do I start?!

(Sakaki heads below deck, and Gato follows him. When they get down there all of the guests are huddled in one corner.)

Sakaki: What’s going on?!

Boy: There’s something outside there!!

Girl: It’s holding on to the ship!

Sakaki: Holding on?

(Sakaki heads back up to the top deck.)

Sakaki: Holding on to the ship?! But why can’t I see it?

(Then the ship begins to splinter ever so slightly.)

Sakaki: Its being crushed?! But by what?

Gato: Did you figure it out yet?!

(Sakaki grits his teeth.)

Sakaki: How can I figure this out?

(Then Sakaki turns to the mast.)

Sakaki: Over there!

(He runs over to the mast and swings the Midnight blade at it.)

Gato: Are you trying to tear the ship apart?!

(Sakaki’s midnight blade is caught in mid air by something however before he can actually cut the mast.)

Captain: What…what’s that?

(Sakaki struggles to get the Midnight blade free, and he finally does and jabs it into his invisible attacker. After this a loud roar can be heard and Sakaki is thrown to the ground.)

Sakaki: oof!

Captain: What is that?

(In a minute the answer is revealed. A huge monster that looks like a snake with wings appears in front of them. It has its coils wrapped around the ship, and its mighty tail is hitting the back end of the ship.)

Sakaki: That’s why it seems like it was attacking three different parts of the ship at once!

Gato: Great! Now you’ve gone and given it a reason to focus ALL of its attention on us!

(After the monster regains its bearings it roars and dives at Sakaki.)

Sakaki: Ok then! Come and get it!

(It dives and Sakaki jumps on its head and uses another Midnight Blade swing to cause damage on its back. It howls in pain and sends him flying again. Sakaki almost flies off into space, but grabs the railing on the ship.)

Sakaki: I really don’t want to fall out there do I?!

(The monster dives at him again and tries to snap him up with its large jaws.)

Sakaki: CRAP! How do I get out of this one?!

(Then the monster suddenly stops.)

Sakaki: Huh?

Gato: Why did it stop just now?

(Then in an even more unexpected development it flops dead on the ship.)

Sakaki: Its….dead?

Gato: Huh….that seems….kinda anti climatic.

Captain: Well we’ve sustained some damage, but we still should be able to make it to the next stop.

Sakaki: That’s good…

(Then before any of them can react, the ship smashes into something, bringing the ship to a total stop.)

Sakaki: What…was that?!

(Then yet another snake-wing monster appears in front of their ship and begins to devour the last one.)

Sakaki: What the?

Gato: Are you telling me that that last one was INJURED?! And Lunkhead nearly died fighting him?

Sakaki: The odds don’t look too good for me….

(Then after it’s done its meal, it stares at Sakaki and lunges.)

Sakaki: This Is bad!!!

(He jumps back onto the ship from the railing he was hanging on to, and runs, but the snake-wing hits him hard with his tail, sending him flying into the mast.)

Sakaki: Guh…..

(Then it eyes the rest of the ship and looks as if it plans destroy the rest of the ship in an unbridled fury.)

Captain: It looks like it won’t spare us!

(Sakaki rises from the rubble, bruised and cut but ready to fight some more.)

Sakaki: Its not over!!!!

(He runs over and stabs the monster, but then it reaches down and tries to bite him.)

Sakaki: NO WAY!

(He tries to hold its mouth open, but then the snake-wing uses its tail to toss him in the air.)

Sakaki: WHOAAAAA!

(Then it opens its mighty jaws and eats our hero alive.)

Gato: L----YOU IDIOT!!!!!!!

Captain: SAKAKI!

(The Snake looks down at the ship again and prepares to destroy it.)

Captain: Sakaki……….i knew I shouldn’t have agreed to this!!!!

(Then suddenly the snake stops.)

Gato: This is only anti-climatic once….after that its ANNOYING!

(Then the Snake’s torso comes clean off.)

Captain: What the….is….this one injured too?

Gato: No! That injury came from the inside! Lunkhead?

(The snake lands with a heavy thud, and lies unmoving. The force of the landing sends dust and debris in the air making a smokescreen. Gato tries to see through it to find Sakaki and he does, but what he sees causes him to gasp.)

Gato: Lunkhead?

(In the fuzzy image of the smoke Sakaki stands, but it looks like the midnight blade is fused to his arm, almost as if the blade is his new arm. However the smoke clears the sword is in his hand and not fused to it.)

Gato: Wow….I’m sure that I saw what I saw….right?

(He rubs his eyes.)

Gato: Nahh….

(He runs over to Sakaki.)

Gato: Lunkhead! You came out alive after all!

(Sakaki is bloody and covered with other substances to disgusting to discuss on this page. Then he turns to Gato and gives a thumbs up.)

Gato: Er….what is that supposed to mean? Are you hitting on me?

(Sakaki falls over.)

Gato: Well I guess not. (Sighs) You’re really gonna have to stop getting all banged up idiot.

Captain: Will he be ok?

Gato: Well lately this kind of thing has been happening to him…so one more time won’t hurt I suppose.

Captain: I’ll try calling for help, but I dunno when someone will be able to come.

Gato: Ok, I guess just as long as this dummy wakes up at Atsuko’s home planet we’ll be ok with that.

(Gato thinks back to what he think he saw.)

Gato: I’m SURE I saw the Midnight blade take over his arm! What could that mean?

(The ship hovers in space, and you can see Terrasno from where it sits waiting for help. Sakaki is almost there now….but what awaits him on this new planet? Especially now that it’s a Tengon base?)

Ending Song: Ai wa Jikan o tomarenai (Love can’t stop time.)

You’re late for our promised time again (Now)

There’s so much on my mind I can’t be mad (Now)

Am I really into you? Or is this one of those flings?

The first time we held hands, wasn’t it on that rainy day?

Yeah…..I’m Really in love

Its so annoying but yet so true I can’t stop time or you

What will happen now? (Will we take a step forward or back?)

Will I still love you when you hurt me? (It’s too much now)

Can we really keep what we believe and be in love?

With all of this on my mind maybe its better if you’re a bit late…
