This is a summary of Greyashe Episode 35.

OP: the dropouts.

ED: Chime.

Chapters covered: 78-80.

The student body keeps its distance from the new 'god', although their unmasked interest in him is evident. He turns his back on the unconscious Claire and Van's vain attempt to protect her, and addresses the mass gathered as his 'audience.' After thanking them again for coming to the show, he takes a formal bow and points at the goddess killer. With a show of bravado, he opens his arms wide and announces that he has done what the GMAGY and the WITCH organizations have failed to for years now. Find and defeat the goddess killer.

Receiving shocked silence, it is now that he realizes that he is standing in front of the crowd in all of his 'godly' glory.  With a smirk, he asks for forgiveness, and taking a few blades of grass, creates a cloak that he wraps himself in.  Walking forward to create a distance between Claire, Van, the students and himself, he then announces that he has a 'grand offer' to make those who are smart. He would now create a 'new' religion, one where he is the center. No petty squabbles over whether the goddesses are the true heirs of magic, no wars, and most of all the freedom to do as one pleases. Using his thumb to point back at the fallen Claire, he notes that he has power on his side after all. He promises everyone that sooner rather than later, he'll have enough to shape the world as he sees fit. This is a limited time offer though, limited- as in people only have now to decide. Once he leaves, he concurs that he won't be able to guarantee anyone's safety.

To everyone's shock, Iselia is the first to step forward. Van blinks away some of the blood flowing from his eyes and whispers her name, begging her not to go with him. Iselia however is already on another plane, unable to notice anyone around her. She stares into the god's eyes, and whispers to herself that she has finally found the one that she saw on that day. The God smiles and asks for any more takers, urging the gathered to make a choice now, or be left behind. Cayden grimaces, trapped between the woman he loves, and the goddesses he has sworn to follow. His legs edge towards Iselia however, and he prepares to follow her when Harrow grabs his shoulder and whirls him around. Harrow whispers hoarsely that he can't go with her, especially if he loves her. Cayden raises an eyebrow, and Harrow explains that Iselia has great power because she hates the goddesses so much. Her hatred is making this decision not her, and if she should ever come to realize and regret her mistake, she'll need someone back home to return to. He has to be here at GMAGY to be that person. Harrow then grins and says that he doesn't mind watching over his girl until that day comes, maybe even pointing her in the right direction.

Cayden almost yells back before he regains his composure. He calls Harrow an idiot, and refuses to go along with this idea. Iselia is important to him after all, and so he wants to be the one to take care of this problem. Harrow narrows his eyes, and asks Cayden if his dream is something he can give up that easily, that he'd allow something like a rush of feelings to cloud his judgment.  The snow user stops and thinks, realizing that his friend is right. He wants to be someone that the goddesses can come to rely on, and that won't happen if he goes with this God. He turns to Harrow and asks why he'd do this for him, and with a shrug, Harrow admits that although he doesn't hate the goddesses, he's apathetic towards their rule. So much has happened because of them, that he had been wondering if there IS an alternative. Cayden skeptically asks him if he'll be okay, in which he replies that he will, since he believes in two very important things first and foremost -his friends, and himself. With a wave, he walks towards Iselia, and tells Cayden to take care.

Damien saunters past Cayden too, annoyed that Harrow took all of the bravado himself. He's interested in studying how a new God plans on changing the world, but had wanted to have all the cool lines to himself. He does add that Cayden is much more suited to stay at the school though, and promises to come back. Cayden grits his teeth, and manages to let a 'Thank you' escape his lips.

The three students stand before the God, and pledge their allegiance to him.  The God glances up at the rest of the mass, and with a hearty laugh admits that he doesn't blame them for being skeptical. He admits that he's still learning about the world and it's ways, so he doesn't have a concrete plan, but good things come to those who wait. He promises not to outright destroy them, but big changes often lead to big compromises. Turning to his disciples, he asks them one more time if this is what  they want, and once they agree, he turns and with a swish of his cloak, wraps them in his own agape. He promises with his life that he will protect theirs, and with a flash of light, everyone disapears.

Van hangs his head sadly, realizing that once again he wasn't able to do anything. He had promised to help Iselia with her problems, and -more importantly, protect Claire....yet he failed to come through on either account. Kani walks over to her friend, and puts a hand on his shoulder. She looks into his eyes, and tells him not to be sad, that there are somethings that cannot be helped. Van nods, but still laments how helpless he feels. Guy then reminds them of one very unfortunate fact; that now Claire's identity is public knowledge, and that they're literally sleeping in a den of lions. Kani and Van glance at each other, and then the group of students and teachers from GMAGY, their shapes suddenly much less inviting.

Two days later, Van walks down the hallways of GMAGY, a cup of warm cocoa in one hand, and a book on mythology tucked under his other arm. His mind is still racing with the events of the last few days, from the God being created right before his eyes, to their capture by the GMAGY staff. He and his friends had been taken to Aschner the headmaster of the school, where it had been decided that they were mostly harmless with Claire out of comission, Guy and Kani unable to use magic, and Van's ability making him an endangered species of sorts. They would be allowed free reign around the school where they could be supervised, but any attempts to leave would be met with punishment. All in all, it isn't a bad deal since the group gets free room and board, and time for Claire to recover. Although many wanted her killed on the spot, they also realize that the God that had left them wasn't completely altruistic, and may have been a major threat if she hadn't stepped in. Van of course left out that she had no interest in saving anyone but him and their group, as it wouldn't help their case much. The boy wonders where the God has gone to, and more importantly, what he meant by 'major changes'. Since their house arrest began, he had started reading on mythology -first out of boredom, but then as an addendum to what he knows already.  He had no idea that the Goddesses existence runs a gambit of emotions among humans, and thus had been confused by the God's words.  Now he knows however, that since the girls had come into existence that people had been arguing over whether to believe in them or not. One important thing he had found in his readings was the suggestion that there was (or is, since it hasn't been proven.) something higher than them. This was just the brain child of some of the religious experts, but it couldn't be dis-proven or otherwise, so the possibility is there.

Van imagines a hierarchy of deities, but his brain can't wrap itself around who could possibly be on top of such an arrangement. The goddesses are all he knows after all, so he had never even considered anything else being out there. He smiles to himself, realizing that this is one more debt that he owes to Claire for taking him along on her journey, and renews his promise to protect her at any cost.

He comes to their room, and after knocking, enters and greets his friends. Guy is staring idly out of a window, and mutters how bored he is, while Kani comes to the door and with a smile asks if Van has found anything interesting in his readings. The boy nods that he has, but inquires about Claire's condition, rather than discuss what he has found. Kani is a little sad that Van would rather discuss Claire rather than himself, but realizes her importance to him. She replies that Claire woke up a little while ago, but still seems to be out of it both mentally and physically. Nonetheless, Van is overjoyed and rushes to her bedside at once.

True enough, Claire is awake and sitting up in bed. Her hair is done in twin tails, and she is wearing a night gown given to the girls in GMAGY. Aschner had been oddly...compliant with their requests, which bothers Kani, but she decides to deal with that later. When Van comes to the side of the bed, Claire looks in his direction, her eyes blank and soulless, the expression on her face akin to a child's. Van almost doesn't recognize her, but decides not to comment right away. He asks how she's doing, and she says slowly that she's doing okay. Van hands her the hot chocolate, and urges her to drink some to gain back her strength. She nods and begins to drink, not taking her eyes off of Van the whole time. Van asks if she can move around at all, and she replies that it still hurts to, in which the boy tells her to take her time recovering. He then sits on the bed and meets her eyes with his own. The two stare at each other like this for a little while, until Van stares down sadly. Kani blinks and asks Van what's wrong, to which he replies to the young witch that Claire doesn't remember him. Kani gasps and asks how Van knows, and the boy stares at her with tears in his eyes. He manages to choke out that it's obvious how he knows, and begins to lament once again that he wasn't able to protect her. Guy comes from the window, and helps Kani console Van, and as Claire looks on, she stammers that 'Van shouldn't be sad.' Van blinks away tears and looks at her, and the ex-goddess killer repeats herself. She smiles and tells her friends not to worry, she's just tired. She remembers them all, and apologies for making them worry. The boy rubs his eyes, and apologizes with a grin of his own, he should have known that Claire of all people would never forget them.

Meanwhile, Cayden says hello to some of Iseila's friends. They regard him politely, and tell him that she still hasn't come back. Cayden puts up tough front, replying that he already knew that, and just wanted to make sure that they're okay. He doesn't want them to cry their eyes out since they are girls after all. The girls glance at each other, and decide to leave the man's wounded pride alone -and thank him for coming to see them. He nods, and reassures them that he's around should anyone need a private consort. The girls groan, and remind him that his grades are among the lowest, so they won't be taking any advice from him, on or off the academic register. Cayden smirks, and waves them off. He prepares to go hang out with his friends, before realizing that they're gone too. With a sad smile, he mutters how unfair it is to be the guy left behind.

Adele hangs up the phone on his desk and leans back blowing air thoughtfully. Things had progressed to their natural end supposedly....he never intended to capture Lupine, or land a major triumph over blasphemy, although it would have been nice in the long run. In the end however, they're back at square one, or square negative one, since now they have a new deity running around, and no idea where or when he'll pop up next. The tutor/spy surmises that this new existence may be directly related to the search for the farseers, and more importantly the end of the world that had been predicted to be coming soon. He had just reported to Acheron the kaiser mage himself, and although the mage wasn't completely happy at how things had turned out, he was pleased that no permanent damage had befallen the school and that none of the students were hurt. He was uncomfortable with the fact that Iselia had chosen to go with the God, since her powers make her lethal, but since it's unknown what the new God was up to, there is really no point in stressing out about it too much. It would be a bridge they would have to cross as they get to it. Adele didn't mention his suspicions as to who was behind this, since there is plenty on everyone's plates as is, but his mind does wander a bit. Who would have the most to gain from this sacrilege? If he could answer that question, perhaps the suspect would become clearer. For now, he decides to hassle Cayden for a bit, as even though the snow user won't admit it, he knows he misses his dear tutor.

Aschner is in his office too, and is assessing his situation. A God had been risen at his school, which would undoubtedly bring unwanted attention to him, but now he has a farseer AND the goddess killer in his possession, and both are ripe for the picking......however this isn't the time. The farseer is still no more than a child, so he's basically useless....although the goddess killer could get him prestige, so he had promised Van and his friends that he would 'treat' her till she's able to get around on her own, and then let them go free. The truth of the matter is that he will let Van, Guy and Kani go without hurting them, but the goddess killer would be staying.  Although he wants nothing to do with using violence or other means of force to keep her here, if it should come down to that, he would without hesitation. He had lost Iselia after all, so he feels that he is owed something in her place. Aschner wonders if he should have stopped her, but realizes that this would have ment that he would have had to go toe to toe with a god, which isn't an attractive aspect no matter what the prize was. In the end, all he could do is wait, which is an even less attractive aspect. If he hurried things however, the group would get suspicious and that would make the goddess killer even harder to separate from them. So for now, he would play the waiting game, and like a master player, win spectacularly.
