A Summary of Greyashe Episode 2

OP: OUTRUNNER

ED: Sunshine.

Chapters covered: 2 and first half of 3.

After leaving Greyashe, Van finds that the world outside the city capital is a very beautiful and cold place. That is understandable as the temperature outside of the capital is even colder. Van can barely move as each step literally feels like his last. The girl notices this and offers to give him some of her power. Van figures he doesn't have much to lose and agrees, but it is only after she has given it to him that she reveals that there are 'sideffects' to giving her power to ordinary people; one of which is death. Given the circumstances however (freezing to death or having a slightly warmer demise) Van has little or no choice. At least now with a fraction of the girl's power he at least can walk around in the snow like she can without a problem.

Finally Van asks her what she is. Being able to breathe fire, walking through the snow in nothing but a shawl, he questions her for a bit, but the only reply she offers is that he shouldn't get any more involved with her than he already is. Realizing that he won't get more than this, he changes the subject and takes note of the white wasteland that they're walking through. Van begins to wonder where they should begin looking for other Farseers, but doesn't get the time to think deeply about it as a sudden snowstorm hits the two.

Not too far from the two travelers is a young man lying down in a snow bank, wearing only a wrinkled school uniform. He like the girl doesn't seem to be bothered by the below zero temperature, and whenever he waves his finger in the air, a snowstorm develops. A man with glasses approaches him and addresses him as 'Cayden'. Cayden doesn't seem too happy to see the other man, and it soon becomes clear that the man with glasses is his tutor, Adele Rockfort. Cayden attends a school for youth with strong magical powers....and is failing. He had tried to lose his tutor by creating a snowstorm, but apparently that didn't work. Adele chastises and mocks him, saying that he can't even skip class properly. Cayden gets annoyed and the two begin to squabble (something that they seem to do often.), but they're cut short as Van literally lands between the two of them. One of Cayden's snowstorms had actually sent him flying!

The girl is nearby and watches as Cayden and Adele wonder what to do with their intruder. Van tries not to move, since he doesn't know if they are friend or foe. The girl wants to leave Van, but remembers how he had come to her rescue earlier. Knowing that since the leaders of the school answer to people who oppose the 'Challengers of Eternity' she would be in deep trouble if they see her....she comes to Van's aid. Cayden and Adele recognize the 'Goddess killer' immediately and give chase, as the girl takes Van and begins to run. Van is slow and sometimes unresponsive, and the girl realizes that the side effects must be kicking in. She uses her fire to create a steam cover, and begins to run with Van, promising that she'll protect him. Meanwhile Cayden makes a promise too. If he wants to be rid of his annoying tutor, and be seen as a hero to the goddesses that gave him his winter powers he WILL destroy the 'Goddess killer.'
